More Alberta oil may start flowing east

cbc -- Canadians in Eastern Canada may see more Alberta oil coming their way in the near future.

That's according to Mark Corey, one of Canada's top federal bureaucrats in charge of energy policy.

Corey, assistant deputy minister for the energy sector with Natural Resources Canada, was testifying Tuesday at a House of Commons committee looking into oil and gas pipelines and refineries in Canada.He told MPs that as oil production in Alberta increases, companies will start to find it in their economic interest to send it to refineries in Eastern Canada.

"As oil production ramps up in Western Canada you will likely see the market respond and in fact we are already seeing the markets respond."He was responding to a question from NDP MP Claude Gravelle who wanted to know why Prime Minister Stephen

And everyone clamored for it. But, it was always a bit of a red flag to me that TransCanada was pushing so hard - slowly it's emerging why... so we wouldn't have known all the details until it was too late.

The Keystone pipeline is planned to carry the oil directly from Canada to Texas refineries located in a special "tax free" zone. Once refined into diesel and gasoline it will be exported to South America, avoiding all taxation. America gets the crude oil pipeline spills and refinery pollution, but not one drop of the fuel. There is an excess of existing pipeline capacity to bring that Canadian crude into the U.S., but they all run to Midwest refineries supplying the U.S. market -- and the production would be taxed. The Keystone pipeline aims to avoid all taxation, not reduce our dependency on Arab oil.

But, the US and Canada want to sell the oil and fuel to the highest bidder, to make the most money from the world oil and fuel market. It would be in the best interest of both governments to lower the price of fuel and natural gas for the benefit of both countries population. Instead, they export it to the world for sale, Go figure! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
