California refinery back online amid soaring prices

Chattanooga Times Free Press -- Californians woke up to a shock Friday as overnight gasoline prices jumped by as much as 20 cents a gallon in some areas, ending a week of soaring costs that saw some stations close and others charge record prices.

...

While gas prices have spiked around the nation, refinery outages and pipeline problems have added to woes in California.

Among the recent disruptions, an Aug. 6 fire at a Chevron Corp. refinery in Richmond left one of the region’s largest refineries producing at a reduced capacity, and a Chevron pipeline that moves crude to Northern California also was shut down.

There also was a power failure that affected an Exxon Mobil Corp. refinery in Torrance, but a company spokeswoman said Friday that the refinery has resumed normal operations and would be able to meet all ...

Funny, how there are more refinery fires, explosionns, and accidents in the last few years, than the last few decades combined...

Pipeline has nothing to do with gas prices. Other lines pick-up the slack. Exxon is back on line as of Friday so gas will go down. No inventory? I am not buying the "special" gas that has to be made. Summer yes, but winter gas id "normal" and easier to make.

Will still take time to come down & likely before they do something else will happen to allow spin doctors to keep prices up. However, Wouldn't say soaring as they haven't reached the prices in Toronto here (by any conversion) & that's normal (so they say) pricing & it's even higher in Montreal & vancouver.

It is hard to believe that our pals at exxon mobil and the corporate people over at the chevron corp have have had to endure such hardship and pain all because their ceo, by many gasbuddy pundits, barak obama has hiked the price of gas right under their dumb as rocks noses, perhaps.

It will be interesting to see the next quarterly report from Exxon and Chevron. I'll bet they are raking in the dough - making more by selling less.

altonb1 said: "The real issue is the road signage"

If prices ever get above $10/gallon, the solution is simple...start pricing with different quantities...

$12/gallon is "only" $3.17/liter...or a "measly" $3/quart

Hopefully we won't have the stupidity to re-elect a president who has openly stated that he really doesn't care if energy prices skyrocket under his policies. We can kick Mr. "boost gas prices to the levels in Europe" Steven Chu to the curb at the same time!

Here's a great example of just more class warfare from people who brought us the most inept president ever. Thanks to Obozo, we have more people in poverty than ever before, a record number of people on food stamps, FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS of additional debt to be borne by Americans for decades to come and the most anemic economic recovery we've ever seen. Dumbocrats were responsible for this economic mess to begin with and we had the stupidity to elect another one 4 years ago. A solid 3.5 years of failure under Obozo's "guidance" and we still have people wanting to blame the GOP for making poor people poorer?

The answer is more refineries but in California they would rather have higher prices them allow new refineries to be built.
